An exciting opportunity exists for a dynamic and experienced Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) to join our ever expanding team at Paddock School. As pupil numbers have grown we have recently had additional investment in the SLT team by the local authority to ensure we can continue to meet pupil's needs.


The SLT's role will be to provide onsite Speech and Language therapy support for children and their families/carers, and to school staff. The post holder will be flexible, with a commitment to new ways of working and have an innovative approach to patient centred care and efficient service delivery.


Paddock Schools is a school for children on the autism spectrum with complex communication and learning needs. Pupils age from 3-19years however the successful applicant will mainly work in the Primary setting. There are opportunities the post holder to develop their skills working with children with complex communication needs, developing their use of AAC systems and social communication skills.

There is a strong working relationship between health and education staff and we pride ourselves on working as a team to meet the needs of the children that attend Paddock School. You will have access to regular clinical supervision from Band 7 SLTs on site, as well as the Clinical Team Leader for the therapies team. There is a large mutli-disciplinary health team onsite, providing therapy input to the pupils.


We are looking for someone with:


  • Experience working as an SLT with children with autism and complex social and communication needs

  • Independent skills to assess, monitor and provide overall SLT management for children

  • Independent skills to provide reports, programmes, training and support for school staff and families

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents and other therapy staff

  • Therapeutic skills to set up and deliver classroom based groups and school

  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team, preferably in a specialist educational setting

  • Working knowledge of ASD & developmental disabilities and the role of the SLT in this area.

  • Awareness of sensory processing and the impact of these difficulties on children.

  • Knowledge of the EHCP process and SEND reform

You will participate in clinical development with the wider SLT team, and will take part in regular SLT professional meetings and study days. You will also have opportunities to develop your skills via self directed study, shadowing and joint working and internal or external training courses.
