We are currently looking for highly motivated nurses to join the team on our 22 bedded Vascular Ward.

Southampton Vascular Unit is a tertiary referral centre of excellence for vascular surgery. It has strong links with the University of Southampton and is an integral subspecialty of the major trauma centre. The ward specialises in the peri-operative care of patients requiring vascular surgery and multi-modal management of acute and chronic arterial and venous conditions.

As regional centralisation of specialist services continues, the ward will become the hub unit for all complex arterial surgery in south Hampshire. All patients requiring aortic reconstruction, carotid surgery, lower limb bypass grafts and amputations are cared for in this expert unit. The unit provides consultant-delivered care seven days a week with integrated multi-disciplinary working and decision-making.

Vascular offers a range of educational opportunities including competency based education, in house study days and courses that cover a broad range of topics as well as supporting university accredited programmes. Eg vascular study days and introduction to cardiovascular and thoracic courses.

The Southampton Vascular Unit has an excellent track record of nursing career development. The successful candidates will accrue speciality skills in vascular nursing care that will provide a foundation for their development. Experienced nurses from this unit in recent years have developed into ward sisters, advanced nurse practitioners [ANP] and clinical nurse specialists [CNS]. Individual nurse career development is positively encouraged and supported.

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is one of England's largest acute teaching trusts. We've recently been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey we ranked seventh in the country for staff engagement, and fourth best nationally for our proportion of staff saying that they would recommend the hospital as a place to work or to receive care.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and only an hour on the train from central London. The New Forest National Park and the beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep.

The city offers living costs 20% lower than those in London, 13 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted and 13 nearby green spaces to enjoy.
