We are seeking an exceptional, inspirational, dynamic and highly experienced senior midwife whose role as Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology is key to maintaining strong professional oversight and governance which is pivotal to the quality and safety of our service to support good clinical outcomes and patient and staff experience.

If you have a passion for providing high quality care and you are an experienced senior midwife looking for an opportunity to lead midwifery and nursing care within the framework of the national maternity and nursing agenda then we would welcome your talents and skills.

An exciting opportunity has risen from a new leadership structure for a highly motivated midwife who aspires to take on a role within the senior leadership team at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust. Working with the Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology this role will encompass the business, finance, project development, and quality improvement and leadership elements of the service. There is an opportunity to work with an energetic and motivated team of obstetricians, midwifery leaders and other local maternity services in the LMS to hone skills that would further develop your confidence as a midwifery leader in a progressive service.

There is the possibility for this role to link with an aspiring Head of Midwifery formal development programme. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual and a strong change agent who aspires to take on a strategic midwifery role in practical leadership, in partnership with stakeholders and service users.

West Hertfordshire maternity services recognise the importance of positive team, culture and individual job satisfaction. We have successfully implemented a number of continuity of carer pilots, which have started to show positive outcomes for the mothers and babies, as well as great satisfaction from service users and midwives working under these teams.

Maternity services have recently been rated as ‘good’ overall by the CQC and our annual staff survey has shown improvement across all domains. Women have scored us highly in the annual CQC maternity survey, achieving ‘good’ in one question. We believe in investing in our staff and understand that staff satisfaction is inextricably linked to the experience women and families have in our maternity service.
