An opportunity has arisen within the London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust for an enthusiastic and highly motivated experienced individual with excellent leadership and communications skills to lead the R&D Department as the Assistant Director of Research & Development.


The Trust supports a wide range of research with strong links to the local Clinical Research Network (CRN), Imperial College and industry and is the major healthcare provider in North West London, incorporating Northwick Park, St. Mark’s, Central Middlesex, Ealing Hospitals and Community services of Brent, Ealing & Harrow. It is conveniently situated for the tube network and central London is only 20 minutes away and close to the major airports and motorways.


We are seeking to appoint to an Assistant Director of R&D with the gravitas and interpersonal skills to drive clinical research across the Trust with an emphasis on creating research infrastructure, innovative partnerships and transformation of the research ecosystem to increase both clinician and patient involvement in Research.


You will be responsible for implementing the R&D strategy and ensuring sound financial management to grow income generation whilst ensuring we deliver to our performance based metrics. You will be required to develop policies and procedures which will ensure compliance with the national laws and guidance laid down for the conduct of research within NHS Trusts.


The post requires; excellent collaborative working skills, ability to build strong relationships with Clinical Leaders and professional staff groups across complex systems, multi-site working.


Experience and in-depth knowledge of the NHS research process, the UK Policy Framework for Health & Social Care Research, UK Clinical Trial Regulations, the EU clinical trials directive, Good Clinical Practice, would be required. You will be required to have strong organizational ability and be able to maintain high standards of integrity and confidentiality and demonstrate commitment to the Trust HEART values – Honesty, Equality, Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork.


Candidates should have strong senior managerial experience, excellent negotiation and communication skills both verbal and written. You will be self-motivated with the ability to innovate and be responsive to change with the capacity to operate and think laterally at strategic and operational levels.


The post will be based at Northwick Park Hospital/St Mark’s site; however the R&D department covers all Trusts sites. The London North West London Healthcare NHS Trust comprises Northwick Park & St Mark’s Hospitals in Harrow, Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal and Ealing Hospital and various community sites.
