It’s a great time to be joining our team as we progress plans to join with our colleagues at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to become a new Foundation Trust.

The Trust Boards of Bedford Hospital and Luton and Dunstable University Hospital have agreed to explore plans to merge and form one NHS Trust. Under the umbrella of the single NHS Trust, both hospitals will retain their identity and individual hospital names. All key services will remain on both sites and will be managed as single teams across the whole Bedfordshire catchment area. This will bring many benefits for patients including much improved continuity of care.

What will I be doing in my new role?

 

The post holder will provide an effective equipment library service to all wards / departments and provide first line maintenance on equipment library devices. The post holder will also provide and record core medical devices training, ensuring trust compliance with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and arrange externally provided training where necessary to assist Department Equipment Controllers (DEC’s) in arranging training for non-core medical devices. The appointee will also act as Deputy EBME Manager, when required.

The EBME department is a key enabling service at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust, providing a full range of medical equipment management services, and ensures that whenever a medical device is used it is suitable for the intended purpose and maintained in a safe and reliable condition.

 

Although we have a very strong learning and development function, we appreciate you will need to have acquired some skills and experience from your career you will require in order for your time with us to be a real success. These can be found in the Person and Job Description attachment on NHS Jobs. However we have highlighted three of them below

 

  • Medical Engineering degree / Master or equivalent

  • Instructional/Educational experience

  • Relevant experience within an EBME department or equivalent.

The hospital has grown significantly especially within the last 30 years. It now provides a wide range of services which include beds for Care of the Elderly, ENT, General Medicine, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Neonatal, Obstetrics, Oncology, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Vascular Surgery, Breast Surgery and Urology. A modern Accident and Emergency Department includes a 6-bedded observation ward. The Critical Care Complex provides both High Dependency and Intensive Care beds to a maximum capacity of 12 beds.

 

Bedford Hospital is situated in a beautiful part of the UK in the county of Bedfordshire. Bedford is a quaint riverside town with easy access to quiet unspoilt countryside, which can become useful after a fulfilling shift. Probationary Period
