We have lots to shout about! Despite having lots of challenges, we’ve worked really hard to make West Herts a great place to work. The good news is we’re really starting to see the results of our efforts. We’re one of the few NHS organisations across the UK to have achieved a phenomenal 0% nurse vacancy rate within our adult inpatient areas. We have also recently secured over £450m capital funding to transform our sites and give our patients and colleagues within #teamwestherts the working environment they deserve.

Fixed term static post: 1.00 WTE (37.5 hours per week) in Surgical/ Orthopaedics

We have a very exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapy Technician within the In-patient Therapy Surgical/ Orthopaedic team (full time). This post will be fixed term for 12 months, covering maternity leave.

The role includes supporting our qualified members of staff, on our acute surgical/ orthopaedic wards, to deliver treatments to patients and to assist with the running of the department including data collection and equipment ordering. The successful applicant must have significant experience as a therapy or nursing assistant in the NHS and have a passion for rehabilitating patients on the surgical/ orthopaedic wards. You will benefit from a probationary and appraisal framework, and regular supervision and training will be provided.

The successful candidate will work independently making treatment and discharge decisions autonomously for a select group of patients. To enhance your development, you will be line managed by a robust tier of Band 6 and 7 Occupational Therapists.

It is hoped that this post will meet the ever-growing demand for rehabilitation in the acute setting, to shorten length of stay and improve patient outcome.

This post does not include any evening/ overnight responsibilities but the successful post holder would have a responsibility in participating in the weekend and Bank Holiday seven day working rotas (1:6 weekend working frequency) on the Watford General Hospital site.

This would mean that you will be entitled to rest days during the week following the weekend worked with enhanced pay over the weekend.

For all internal applicants from WHHT (Therapy department): please note that a secondment would be considered.
