The Focus CAMH Service provides both generic and forensic metal health provision to young people at HMYOI Wetherby and Adel Beck Secure Children’s home (SCH), working in partnership with Leeds Community Healthcare to provide an integrated healthcare service. The service also includes a community Forensic CAMH team

HMYOI Wetherby is the largest secure provision in the country for young males aged between 15-19. It also accommodates two national units, one for long term sentencing and The Keppel Unit designed to meet the needs of particularly vulnerable and complex young people.

Adel Beck is a 24 bedded Secure Children’s home and is the most technologically advanced home in the UK, it comprises of three 8-bedded units. The majority of these are commissioned by the Youth Justice Board for young people that have committed offences and the remainder is commissioned for young people secured on welfare grounds. Adel Beck has been judged as an outstanding children’s home by Ofsted.

As part of the Children and Young People’s transformation programme, we are currently in the process of commencing implementation of the SECURE STAIRS framework at Adel Beck and Wetherby YOI. This service development will see the introduction of a developmentally and trauma informed mental health service model. Most young people received into secure care are known to have multiple unmet health and mental health needs and high risk behaviors that have persisted over time. They may or may not meet the diagnostic criteria for multiple disorders, but their needs and risks can be understood as arising from traumatic life events and disrupted relationships, often beginning in early childhood. These needs and risks can best be met by using a psychologically informed approach to support the residential staff and other professionals in their day to day work with the young people, because supporting these relationships and supporting staff in their daily interactions will assist young people in acquiring the skills necessary to manage their moods and behavior more effectively.

The CAMHS team provide initial screening for all young people entering custody in order to assess individual needs and refer appropriately within the service. We provide an MDT approach to assessment and intervention of children in custody, tailoring individuals care pathway to best meet their need and achieve the best outcome.

We are looking for experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Senior Mental Health Practitioners to join our multidisciplinary and multi-agency team. We are particularly interested in experienced RMNs to support our current workforce and service development.

You will have substantial post qualification experience, some of which must be working with Children, Young People and Carers. In addition you will have extensive experience in an identified portfolio and be able to provide evidence of advanced clinical/therapeutic knowledge and skills in this area. You will be expected to provide highly specialist advice, consultation and supervision to other professionals.

You will be responsible for an identified portfolio of work and have proven ability to provide strong clinic leadership to drive the highest standard of clinical practice.

One identified portfolio will be the transformation of our mental health pathway. You will have significant demonstrable experience working with children who are experiencing complex mental health issues. The assessment and intervention of self-harm is a key area of development for this identified portfolio.

The second identified portfolio will be the development of a ‘wellbeing’ and primary intervention pathway. This is a key element in our current service development and will consider both individual and group therapeutic work, but also provide support, training and supervision to other groups of professionals. .We would welcome applications for practitioners with demonstrable clinical experience in CBT, DBT or systemic family therapy.

The successful applicant will be required to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary way. The team supports each other in clinical decision making and especially promotes shared and joint decision making between different disciplines. These roles will involve working closely with the Local Authority Team at Adel Beck, the custodial staff within the YOI and other agencies to ensure the best outcomes for the young people we work with.

We will provide an individual bespoke package of training and supervision and development opportunities across the FCAMH service. The role will involve working closely with the YOI and other agencies to ensure the best outcomes for the young people we work with. This will be initially based at Wetherby YOI, although flexibility to work and travel across the service is required. Both posts are 37.5 hours per week.
