Norwich Practices Limited, Holt Medical Practice and Elmham Surgery are working in partnership with ‘Dementia UK’ to provide the specialist dementia support that families need through the establishment of an Admiral Nurse Service across Central Norfolk. This service provides specialist dementia support to families across the localities of Norwich, North and South Norfolk.

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced, motivated, registered nurses with a passion for dementia care to join the Central Norfolk Admiral Nurse Team. We are looking for the right individuals to join the team and play an instrumental role in developing the service in Norfolk to meet the multiple, and often complex, needs of families affected by dementia.


The service operates across the localities of Norwich, North Norfolk and South Norfolk, with two nurses based in each locality and employed by the corresponding host organisation. We currently have vacancies in the South Norfolk locality, hosted by Elmham Surgery, and North Norfolk locality, hosted by Holt Medical Practice. Each nurse will cover a designated demographic area within the community. Contracts will be on a fixed term basis until March 2020. Secondment opportunities would be considered at the discretion of the current employing organisation.


These posts are delivered in partnership with Dementia UK who will support you to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse through monthly clinical supervision and practice and professional development.  You will become part of a national network of Admiral Nurses, and will have the opportunity to access relevant post-graduate courses and develop professionally, informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.


These posts are supported and part-funded by Norwich CCG, North Norfolk CCG, South Norfolk CCG and Dementia UK.


The main purpose of this role is to provide specialist dementia nursing expertise and support to those affected by dementia, with a specific focus on family carers/ supporters who experience difficulties within the localities of Central Norfolk.


The role will include the following elements:

  • Provide specialist nursing assessment, evidenced based intervention, practical advice and emotional support for family carers of people with dementia and where appropriate people with dementia themselves, at all stages including bereavement. 


  • Offer expertise and guidance to professional colleagues, the general public and others in supporting family and relationship –centred approaches and best practice in dementia care.


  • Assist with the development, evaluation and audit of this specialist area of practice and of the Admiral Nursing service.


  • Provide up-to-date clinical advice, support, liaison, and in negotiated circumstances education and training to other staff/agencies.


  • Use the Admiral Nurse Competency framework to support the development of own Admiral Nursing practice.


  • Participate in and make effective use of Dementia UK Clinical Supervision and Practice Development.
