Each rotation is supported by a robust senior tier with a wealth of experience to help guide and support post holders in individual learning needs but also to strive to ensure that the best standards of care are provided. West Hertfordshire NHS Trust is a busy acute district general with most of the main caseload now centralised at the Watford General Hospital site, with the exception of the elective orthopaedic service which is at St Albans City Hospital.

As a trust we have one of the largest Acute Assessment Units which provides opportunities to provide rapid but comprehensive assessments to help support patients to the most appropriate place of care. The teams have established relationships with our community bedded counterparts and are building strong relationships with the community team rapid support services as they develop, including rapid response and early supported discharge for stroke, to enable best patient care. We also run a Frailty Unit service.

We have a 19 bedded ITU. We additionally have Dementia and Delirium specialist therapists in both Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy who can help develop and support, our Band 5’s, with any complex patients in the acute setting.

The department is a 7 day working service and this post would be included in that rota (frequency of 1:6 weekends) with rest days in the following week. This is underpinned by a competency framework.

Watford General Hospital is within easy walking distance of the Metropolitan line (underground) and London Midland overland Train at Watford Junction Station, which is a 20 minute journey away from London Euston.

Car drivers also have easy access via main motorways.
