Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.

Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk and District General Hospital. This includes adults and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.

The Planned Care Business Unit is pleased to offer a unique and exciting opportunity for a Surgical Advanced Practitioner to join our newly formed team of Advanced Practitioners. As part of this newly formed team you will work with colleagues providing a 24 hour service working within a surgical team providing first class care for surgical patients. Working at Advanced Level within agreed protocols and clinical guidelines and undertaking health assessments you will use your knowledge and skills to diagnose, treat and discharge patients. You will also be responsible for the care of patients being admitted for planned operations.

There is also an opportunity for Band 6 experienced practitioners educated to Degree Level to join our team as a Trainee Advanced Practitioner (Band 7 training post depending on experience) the applicant would be funded for a two year MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. The successful applicant will be mentored and supported by a nominated clinician within the team, have access to Senior Nurse support, as well as being given leave to attend modules for the MSc and Non-Medical Prescribing and appropriate time to study.

By the end of the two years we would expect the post holder to be working autonomously as a Surgical Advanced Practitioner.

If you have the proven skills and knowledge, are a non-medical prescriber and can work autonomously and as a team player or you are an experienced practitioner looking to progress and develop as a Trainee Advanced Practitioner then we would love to hear from you.
