It is an exciting time to join our Pharmacy team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust! We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated pharmacist to lead the installation, ongoing maintenance, development and clinical aspects of our world class Trust Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) system as part of our new Trust wide Electronic Patient Record – UNITY.

The role will allow you the autonomy to take our department and Trust well into the 21st Century, building on the excellent and cutting edge work already done in developing the EPMA system as part of a wider, world class Cerner Millennium EPR deployment, due to go live later in the year.

Our EPMA is part of heavy investment by the Trust in developing the pharmacy service to meet the challenges and changes of the Hospital Transformational Plan and the Carter report.

To date, our pharmacy department has led the innovations in automated storage (Pyxis) across our most acute areas of work, and improved drug security, utilising Abloy keys, across the rest of the organisation. These will be developed further by the post holder to include integration of UNITY into our existing Pyxis automated ward medicines cabinets and to lead on the deployment of further machines to others areas of the Trust.

To support this, you will also lead on the technical and clinical aspects of our current Pharmacy ROWA robot, and help in the design and procurement of our new robot – to cement our technological basis in our new hospital – Midland Metropolitan, due to open in 2022.

These will also need to dovetail with integration into our Pharmacy dispensing and stock management system (currently JAC) that you will lead together with the technical aspects of our solutions to addressing FMD and other such IT challenges.

In being responsible for the large number of IT systems in and out of Pharmacy, you will also lead and manage a small EPMA team and provide leadership to other members of the Pharmacy team such as the Stores and Distribution leaders, the Lead Technician – Procurement and Pharmacy IT, The Lead Technician(s) – Dispensaries, etc.

Experience of working in hospital within a patient focused environment is essential as you will be in charge of the clinical validation of the EPMA system, while experience in managing EPMA and Pharmacy IT systems is desirable.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; you must be able to manage your own workload, direct & supervise others and work as part of a team.

The post holder will also be expected to also provide high quality pharmaceutical services to key clinical areas and the dispensaries on a rota basis and participate in other departmental rotas for weekends, late duty, bank holidays and on-call.
