Occupational Therapy at Dorset County Hospital is expanding!! We have exciting developments within our urgent and integrated care service with three senior roles available. Dorset County Hospital is an engaged partner of the Integrated Care System, working closely with partner organisations, committed to delivery of the NHS long term plan (2019).

The post holder would work within an integrated therapy team alongside physiotherapists, working holistically to complete the CGA, initiate rehabilitation and facilitate safe and timely discharges. Hours of work are between 8am and 6pm, 7 days a week, on a shift basis. Rotations are currently based across two sites (Dorchester and Weymouth). Full time or job share would be considered.

The successful candidates will join our urgent and integrated care rotation, which includes three established rotations and two exciting new rotations. Rotations are designed to assist you in building skills and experience to prepare for advanced level practice, including acquisition of quality improvement skills;

    • Emergency Department/ Ilchester Assessment unit
    • Older Persons Assessment Service (OPAS)- specialising in frailty, including rapid assessment and early rehabilitation, using the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessmen
    • Westhaven community hospital (Weymouth- Dorset Healthcare step down rehabilitation facility)

New rotations:

    • Rapid access clinics/ follow up service: Development of rapid access clinics at DCH providing a clinic based assessment service alongside MDT colleagues, for patients presenting to the hospital with acute changes to cognition or falls. Development of a follow up visit/telephone call service for those requiring completion of assessment on discharge, low level input, or assessment for those discharged from hospital out of hour
    • Medical service: Working as part of patient flow programme, under the direction of deputy divisional manager, to trial different methods of service delivery for patients admitted to general medical and surgical wards. We will provide on the job support and training regarding Quality Improvement and service evaluation, in order to determine the future model of service delivery, in-keeping with the integration agenda and those articulated in the NHS long term plan.

The team has a good supervision structure and an in-service training programme. Clinical, quality improvement and management support will be offered to support clinicians and service developments. Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a modern District General hospital with around 350 beds, offering an excellent working environment. The Occupational Therapy department is committed to forging links with Bournemouth University, engaging with regional and national networks and increasing our involvement in therapy research. Much of West Dorset is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the coastline is protected by World Heritage status. There are numerous beaches within easy reach, and Portland harbour (host of 2012 Olympic Sailing) promotes a wide range of water sport activities. The area is largely rural, with reasonable rail, air and road links. A full driving licence is required and a car that is suitable for business use with relevant insurance.
