Diabetes Screener

Job Reference: J112-A-19-2633

£18,813 + 10% HCAS

Our screeners are at the heart of EMIS Care, spending their time on the ground, helping our patients to live longer healthier lives. As one of our screeners you’ll run local clinics to see our patients and photograph their eyes to assess for diabetic retinopathy. We'll need you to be empathetic and able to talk to patients about their images on a daily basis. In this role, you'll be supported whilst undertaking your training, but once that`s completed will be working largely unsupervised in a pressured environment, so a cool head is essential! All in all, we want you to be customer and people focused, caring about our patients and being passionate about delivering an exceptional service at all times.

The successful candidate will be working primarily in the Croydon area but will also need to attend the Screening Programme’s base in New Malden. Flexibility in covering clinics elsewhere accross South West London will be required (We currently run 14 screening sites across the Croydon, Kingston upon Thames, Merton, Richmond upon Thames, Sutton & Wandsworth areas). On rare occasions there may be the need for you to travel further afield, so flexibility is essential.

Our team

Working with other screeners, you`ll be mentored and supported by our screener/graders and team leaders, to ensure you understand and learn everything you need to deliver an exceptional service to our patients.

Who you`ll be

We want to make sure you are set for success; this isn`t all about your skills and that is why we would love to talk to you even if perhaps you don`t fit all of the below.

  • customer focused with brilliant inter personal skills
  • willingness to learn - as we`ll put you through the necessary qualification
  • organised and able to prioritise tasks
  • good problem-solving skills
  • able to work under pressure
  • any previous experience working with the public is ideal
  • minimum of 5 GCSEs including grades A-C in English, Maths and a Science subject or equivalent
  • a full driving licence and preferably your own transport (clinic times can vary and early morning collection of equipment is occasionally involved in the role, which cannot always be facilitated with local public transport)
