Applications are invited for the post of Associate Specialist in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare, for the Devon Sexual Health Service.

Devon Sexual health is committed to providing accessible services of the highest quality with innovative service models and an advanced digital interface. The size of the county as well as its mixture of urban and rural environments, demographic profile and pockets of deprivation offer many challenges to equitable delivery of sexual health services. The post holder will provide senior sexual and reproductive healthcare expertise to the service and work within a team of GUM Consultants and specialist leads, to shape and deliver the service across all clinical sites over the coming years. The service is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of GUM/HIV consultants, associate specialists, speciality doctors, and dual trained nursing staff with support from HCAs, full admin/secretarial support, a pharmacist and counsellors.

The job would be based in Exeter or Barnstaple and would cover these areas as well as Torbay in South Devon. The post holder would work across all of Devon and initially cover at least 2 days clinically in North Devon.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with licence to practice

For an informal discussion, prospective candidates are welcome to contact Dr Elizabeth Claydon (Lead Clinician) on 01271 341568. Informal visits are encouraged.

We offer flexible working arrangements, career opportunities and encourage work-life balance.

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
