Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a talented individual to work within the Pharmacy Manufacturing Team.

The Chief Production Technician post is a new exciting varied and interesting role which has the essential task of leading on the smooth running of the MHRA licenced production unit based on the 13th Floor Tower Wing, Guys Hospital.

Key Activities of the Post will include:

    • Ensuing the safe, effective, responsive, GMP and legally compliant and efficient operation of the production service is maintained at all times
    • Acting as a role model for all staff working within the production unit and promoting a patient and customer centred focus to the service provided
    • Supporting, line managing and reviewing the performance of the principal production technician and assist in the management of the junior production staff
    • Aiding and deputising for the Senior Production pharmacists and Production Manager as required
    • Writing, developing, maintaining and ensuring timely implementation of policies and standard operating procedures with the assistance of other senior production staff
    • Undertaking when required manufacturing, preparation and dispensing of raw materials and other products and to act as a supervisor checker within production areas
    • Becoming accredited to perform, and to carry out the role of accredited checking technician (ACT) / production releasing officer for dispensed medicines and items prepared under the MHRA issued MS and MIA(IMP) licences
    • Liaising with the Clinical Trials team and develop cooperation and systems for the efficient transfer of information and understanding ensuring the smooth initiation of new clinical trial treatments requiring production in the manufacturing unit
    • Working alongside the formulation scientist, pharmacy business manager and marketing manager on the development of new and existing products, pricing and marketing strategy to ensure success of continued and new product lines
    • Managing the IT systems available to the department and ensure that all new products and changes are controlled in a compliant manner and that staff are trained accordingly
    • Leading on the recruitment and selection of staff to the Trust’s Pharmacy Manufacturing unit and assist in recruitment to the wider pharmacy technical services team as required.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and outcome driven individual who has relevant experience in the following areas:

    • Team leading at senior level in a pharmaceutical production facilit
    • Working with moist heat terminal sterilisation
    • A strong foundation of GMP, GCP and GDP knowledge and evidence of application
    • Producing complex performance reports to a high standard to multiple audiences
    • You will have excellent written and communication skills, and ability to interpret data to produce meaningful reports. An excellent ability to engage with others to support the department in driving improvement programmes. You will be able to balance conflicting demands and prioritise your own workload and have the ability to achieve results through a combination of effective planning, firm direction, and delegation to junior staff
    • Experience within an NHS Organisation production role would be an advantage but broader relevant experience will be considered.
