Pathology Support Service Supervisor

Band 4

£20,150 to £23,363 per annum depending on experience

Pathology First is a joint venture between Southend University Hospital, Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals and Integrated Pathology Partnerships (“iPP”). The services provided by Pathology First cover all disciplines including Blood Transfusion, Biochemistry, Haematology, Immunology, Microbiology, Histopathology, Cytopathology and Phlebotomy.

 

IPP is part of the wider Labco-synlab group, the largest European clinical diagnostics group with more than 13,000 staff operating in over 400 labs across 27 countries. Established in 2010, IPP is a fast growing, commercially effective, UK Company dedicated to high quality Pathology Services and enabling UK healthcare organisations to strengthen the delivery and efficiency of services to patients, partnering with the NHS and numerous private healthcare companies. iPP operates seven laboratories in the UK performing seventeen million tests per year, and employs approximately 600 scientific and support staff in its UK laboratories.

 

The Biochemistry Department at Pathology First is looking for a Pathology Support Service Supervisor to join their team whose role will be to:

 

 

 

  • To supervise the Pathology Support Services team at the hub or ESL responsible for the day to day operations of the pre-analytics section

  • To perform all designated duties within Pathology in accordance with local working practices, to maintain high personal standards and conform to Health and Safety regulations.

  • To prepare and process clinical specimens for biomedical testing, within operating procedures and protocols

  • To work within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of Associate Practitioners.

  • To continue with personal development through academic or practical experience.

  •  

 

The Successful candidate will have:

 

 

 

Essential

 

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent and 4 GCSE at Grade A-C or equivalent, including Maths and English.

  • Proven experience and knowledge of specimen receipt and preparation procedures for biomedical testing.

  • High degree of accuracy & numeracy.

  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of levels of staff within the laboratory and user organisations.

  • Good developed interpersonal and team working abilities.

  • HR experience

  • Attendance management skills.

  • Good organisational skills with good time management skills.

  • Ability to adapt efficiently to change.

  • Able to plan activities within area of work

  • High degree of dexterity required

  • Able to concentrate for prolonged periods of time

 

 

 

Desirable

 

  • NHS work experience

  • Previous supervisory role experience

  • HR experience recruitment and staff selection skills

  • Performing Appraisal experience
