We deliver care for over 3,800 people each year who face a life limiting illness. Only 25% of our costs are supported by the NHS. Inpatient Units cover required for weekend on-calls and occasional week day sessions

St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice has two Inpatient Units in Taunton and Yeovil serving the whole of Somerset. There are 24 beds, 12 in each Unit, which are used for patients that need specialist symptom control, or have complex end of life care needs.

The weekend role involves a ward round of the inpatient unit each Saturday and Sunday following handover with the nursing team. The on-call is then for phone advice as required but there may be a need to revisit the unit in the case of an admission or to review a patient acutely. Second on-call phone support is provided by a Palliative Care Consultant. Expertise in the field is not essential but applicants must have an enthusiasm for palliative medicine and feel confident in providing generalist palliative care. The post would be suitable for Doctors wanting to develop or continue a specialty interest. IT training and induction with be provided prior to commencement of the post, with access to the wider hospice education programme.
