Registered Nurse – Musculo-skeletal (MSK) Unit


The successful candidates will be part of a motivated team of orientated professionals with a passion for delivering good nursing care in an ever changing environment. The successful candidates must possess excellent communication skills, a high sense of professionalism and a strong belief in the value of teamwork.


The successful candidate will be given a base ward with opportunity to gain experience in all areas of Musculoskeletal Care. You will have in house support at each stage via our clinical development nurse as well as senior management.


The Wards within the Musculoskeletal Unit
• 16 bedded Joint unit which is ring fenced,
• 16 bedded 23hr unit of elective surgery,
• 32 bedded Orthopaedic Trauma ward, including Orthogeriatric Care.
• Early Discharge Team and The Early Rehabilitation and Nursing (ERAN) Team who visit patients in the Community following hip and knee replacement.


• Musculoskeletal Infusion Suite which provides rheumatological infusion treatments. The infusion suite is an expanding area with an interest in research which is supported by the Specialist Rheumatology Nurses and the Rheumatology Consultants.


Here in MSK we thrive on developing all our staff. To date we have supported six HCA’s to become assistant practitioners of whom two have completed their training and two are in their final Year. We have been able to nurture and develop our Band 5’s by offering opportunity to work at band 6 level for a one year period to give experience and exposure at this level.
The MSK Unit is a dynamic forward thinking department which promotes evidence based high quality patient care.

In Early 2019 the unit will be expanding the current Trauma Ambulatory Unit, where patients will be assessed by specialist Trauma and orthopaedic multi-disciplinary team to ensure they follow correct patient pathway from arrival ensuring continuous patient care. You may also be interested in becoming a part of our enhanced recovery programme, although it is in its infancy the department will be driving this forward over the coming year.
