The Cellular Pathology Services at the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced, highly motivated laboratory manager for our ISO15189 accredited Cellular Pathology Laboratory & Mortuary Services. You will be responsible for the operational management of the department - managing, motivating and effectively leading the technical and support staff in the delivery and development of a high quality safe service to users both within the Trust and externally. The post holder is expected to bring innovation and highly developed specialised skills to the role to ensure that quality, performance and safety are maintained.

This post is subject to a Recruitment & Retention Premium (RRP) of 10% on top of your salary pay point based on achieving set performance criteria:

  1. Maintaining UKAS ISO 15189:2012 accreditation

  2. Maintaining HTA licencing

You will be responsible for Quality Management within the department, ensuring the department maintains its UKAS ISO15189:2012 accreditation, and complies with the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licensing requirements.

You will be an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with a master’s degree (or equivalent) in a related subject with proven technical experience. You will have prior management and leadership experience and in-depth experience of working at a senior level within the discipline to shape our future services. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a number of projects including the deployment of digital slide scanning technology and a replacement digital dictation system.

The Great Western Hospital has modern facilities and is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds in the bustling town of Swindon with easy access to the M4 corridor and excellent transport links to the open countryside. There is an on-site restaurant, crèche facilities and a choice of coffee/tea outlets. The laboratory has its own rest area just along the corridor from the department.

The laboratory uses the Winpath laboratory information system (LIMS) and the Q-Pulse quality management system, with the Cellular Pathology Services processing specimens from more than 20,000 patients per year and undertaking circa 400 post mortems.

Current employees should be aware that this position is advertised as a GWH position and appointment ends any TUPE protection.

All candidates are required to pay for their own DBS check where applicable. Standard DBS check costs £26 and will be recovered from your first pay; Enhanced DBS check costs £44 and will be split and recovered over the first 2 pay.

Bank posts requiring a DBS check; payment must be made prior to commencing.

Apprentices are exempt from payment.
