LAS Registrar in General Surgery

The successful candidate would be working at ST / registrar level within the Department of General Surgery with an interest in Colorectal and Upper GI Surgery. The post would offer regular outpatient clinics, theatre sessions and registrar on-call duties (1 in 8). Endoscopy training is available to interested trainees.

Weekly timetable would include on average 2-3 theatre sessions, 1-2 outpatient clinic session. Although based with the colorectal & upper GI teams, a degree of cross cover within general surgery and vascular is expected – offering a broader experience. One week in 8 is “Hot-Week” covering emergency surgery – this is well-structured with a team based system.

The successful applicant should expect to be involved heavily with the daily running and future development of the acute ambulatory care service as both a service and development role. This will involve supporting the on call team on a regular basis.

The post will build on core skills attained at CT1 & 2 and allow further development within General and Emergency Surgery.

The post would be part of the general surgical on-call rota 1:8 and have regular access to GI elective and emergency lists.

All Registrar level surgeons are involved in all teams and share the on call service with compliant shift patterns.

Interested candidates should contact Mr Nick Kenefick, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, Lowes Bridge, TQ2 7AA.
