Chief Registrar in Infection Sciences (Medical Microbiology)
(Full Time or Part Time)

The opportunity for a Chief Registrar has arisen for a period of 12 months, commencing August 2019. This post will be based at North Bristol NHS Trust, Southmead Hospital in Infection Sciences (Medical Microbiology). This is the first Chief Registrar post in Infection Sciences at North Bristol Trust that is part of a programme supported by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Future Hospitals Programme and the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM). It is designed as either an in-programme or out-of-programme experience (OOPE/OOPT) for a registrar ST4+ currently enrolled in specialty training in Medical Microbiology or jointly in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.

 

This will be a 12-month post, providing 40% protected time for Chief Registrar initiatives and 60% clinical time in Medical Microbiology.

 

While the appointee will continue to work 60% of their time within Infection Sciences, the primary role of this individual will be to liaise between the junior medical staff working in the department and the consultants and clinical lead for Infection Sciences.

 


Full Registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital however flexibility will be required as the department provides diagnostic services to University Hospitals Bristol and the Royal United Hospital Bath also. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from Southmead Hospital, Bristol, for on-call purposes. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.

The annual salary is in accordance with the Specialist Registrar Scale as follows (October 2018 rates); £31,217 - £49,086.

 

A standard working week is 40 hours and this post also attracts a supplement of an additional 50% of the basic salary for working on the out of hour’s rota.
