Medical Equipment Management Services (MEMS)

Band 6 Senior Medical Technical Officer

Morriston Hospital

A vacancy has arisen for a Band 6 Senior Medical Technical Officer within the Medical Equipment Management Services (MEMS) Department located at Morriston Hospital. The post provides the opportunity to work on a range of complex and patient critical medical equipment, ensuring it performs to manufacturer’s specifications and making it available for patient use.

The post holder will be accountable to the Head and Deputy Head of MEMS via the MEMS Section manager/supervisor.

The successful candidate will support the Health Boards medical equipment throughout its life cycle and will be involved in equipment evaluations, selection and procurement, acceptance processes, scheduled preventative maintenance, servicing, calibration, repairs and the decommissioning and safe disposal of the equipment.

The post holder will take responsibility for their own personal development and will be subject to the organisation’s PDR process.

The post holder will be required to show initiative and possess judgement and fault finding skills in order to facilitate effective repairs to medical devices. A high level of manual dexterity and ability to utilise engineering tools, test equipment is essential. Being self-motivated you will also show an ability to plan your own workload, liaise with manufacturers, monitor stock levels and order spare parts.

The post involves working with other healthcare professionals, often in clinical areas, therefore excellent communication skills will be required to interact with medical, nursing and technical staff.

When fully trained and competent on a variety of service critical medical equipment the post holder will form part of the departments out of hour’s on-call service.

The department has a long standing ISO9001 Quality Management system; therefore knowledge of working within this type of environment would be essential, as would a knowledge of Office packages (or similar) such as Word and Excel.

Minimum qualification HNC in an engineering discipline or equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience.

The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
