This is an exciting opportunity to continue the development of the work of the Cornwall General Practice Training Hub (formally known as Community Educational Provider Network (CEPN)) and the Health Education England (HEE) Schools of Primary Care (SoPC) in delivering the HEE Mandate across the South West of England.

Working with general practices and other community health and social care provider organisations, the post holder will be key to enabling the Training Hub to develop a multi-professional workforce equipped to provide a range of quality clinical services to meet the needs of patients in the 21st century. Adopting a whole system approach to primary care education, the main responsibility of the role will be in the development of sustainable quality placements for non-medical learners, which will require a wide engagement approach to include collaboration with the SoPC GP Training programme and Higher Educational Institutes (HEI).

The intended outcomes of the post include increased placement capacity, allocation of learners, and quality for training across all general practice roles except General Practitioners. The role will also be involved with the promotion of multi professional learning and supervision across primary care.

HEE provides leadership for the education and training system. It ensures that the shape and skills of the future health and public health workforce evolve to sustain high quality outcomes for patients in the face of demographic and technological change. HEE ensures that the workforce has the right skills, behaviours and training, and is available in the right numbers, to support the delivery of excellent healthcare and drive improvements through supporting healthcare providers and clinicians to take greater responsibility for planning and commissioning education and training. The development of the Training Hubs are an innovative approach to supporting the HEE workforce agenda and enables local primary care workforce goals which include those articulated in Sustainable Transformation Plans (STPs) to be addressed.

Cornwall Training Hub is a partnership of primary care organisations that coordinate education and workforce planning. Core functions are:

    • Support for workforce planning and development to respond to local needs and enable the redesign of services within primary care and the community to better support general practice.
    • Improve education capability and capacity in primary and community settings through the development of multi-professional educators and the creation of additional learner placements.
    • Improve education quality and governance and act as a local coordinator of education and training for primary and community care to support general practice.
