We are recruiting consultant posts in our Older People’s Medicine (OPM) directorate. From our work on Frailty identification and interventions, we have redesigned our services and we have launched a revolutionary service with the creation of a dedicated Older People’s Emergency Department (OPED) for patients of 80 years and over.

OPED is ground breaking, consultant led service and will continue to identify Frailty and expedite tailored expert intervention, alongside a rapid MDT way of working. The service has been responsible for a significant decrease in our ED conversion rates for frail elderly and a drop in our hospital average length of stay and HMSR.

There are further development plans underway, and if you would like to be a part of shaping leading edge services for older people, we would love to hear from you.

The directorate also has responsibility for four acute OPM wards encompassing short stay, an ortho-geriatric unit, a specialist dementia care ward, as well as rehabilitation within the local community hospitals.

There is the opportunity for flexible job plans and flexible working patterns, including job shares and part time work. Any specialist interest will be accommodated in particular surgical liaison, movement disorder or frailty.

As a university teaching hospital we have developed our research and development strategy with the UEA and work with partners at the Norwich Research Park. There are numerous opportunities for the post holder to undertake teaching roles on a sessional basis as well as research programmes.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the biggest hospitals in England with approximately 1000 beds, situated in the heart of Norfolk. Norwich is a picturesque, pleasant city in the heart of Norfolk, London (1.5 hours by car, and train access is also less than two hours (From London Liverpool Street, no changes). Assistance with relocation costs may be available.
