Cricketfield Surgery is a friendly and caring primary healthcare practice that believes in nurturing the wellbeing of its staff as well as patients. An established and thriving practice, operating for over 25 years, with a current list size of just over 10300that is steadily increasing. Newton Abbot is a bustling market town surrounded by beautiful countryside with the coast and Dartmoor nearby, as are the vibrant cities of Exeter and Plymouth so it’s a fabulous part of the world to be based.  We also work closely with other GP practices in the local area which we are currently formalising into a Primary Care Network. We support the training of both postgraduate GP trainees and medical students, are often involved in research projects and are dedicated to continuous improvement of the practice and employee development. We have 6 GP Partners, 2 salaried GPs, 1 ANP, 9 members of the nursing and HCA team, 16 admin staff, 3 operational staff and a Practice Manager. We are a busy practice who work hard but also have a sense of fun and aim to make all team members feel integral to the success of the practice.

We are looking for a dynamic GP who is keen to be involved in projects to improve patient services, processes and procedures or specific areas of responsibility of the practice. There is definitely scope for becoming a partner but fully recognise the challenges this can bring for those who are also keen to ensure a work life balance. Therefore, we are offering a basic salary, upon application, that can be enhanced through Project Management Payments or Responsibility Management Payments that will be determined by the scope of the work you will be taking on and length of time. We are also flexible in our approach to hours so if you’re looking for a Practice that will allow you to flourish as a skilled GP with significant opportunities for developing primary healthcare services and/or management skills whilst working in a way that suits your lifestyle then this could be an exciting prospect. We are looking for up to 40hrs per week and would welcome applications for all or part of that commitment . The patient facing hours could be worked between school drop offs and pick-ups, or worked around other commitments or interests you may have, and we would support home working for completion of administrative and project management work.

Ideally, we are looking for a GP to start in April but would wait for the right candidate so those with a longer notice period or due to complete their training this summer would be welcome to apply. We have a broad skill set amongst the team so are not looking for any particular speciality or area of interest, instead we are open to all GP applicants with a view to supporting them with their preferred areas of primary healthcare. You do need to be flexible in your approach, adept at problem solving, open to new ideas, passionate about patient care and wellbeing, and inspired by the wider NHS plans and opportunities. We are also looking for an applicant to be compassionate, resilient, calm under pressure, have excellent communication skills and a teamwork mentality with a good sense of humour.

If you would like to arrange a visit to the practice to gain more information about Cricktetfield Surgery and the role, or for an informal chat, then please contact the Practice Manager, Jennifer Wain.
