The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Great Western Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic and forward thinking Consultant in Medical Oncology to join and help develop the successful service that the Trust provides. This is an exciting opportunity for a new team member to join a progressive forward thinking cancer service. We are looking for candidates with special interests in Breast and Gynaecology. It is essential for the candidate to be dedicated to providing a first class service where the patient and their relatives come first.

Applications are invited for a Medical oncologist (10 PAs) in the Oncology Department at The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GWH) in Swindon. The Department serves a population of 350,000 and is part of the Thames Valley Cancer Network. There are 3 medical oncologists based at GWH and 5 clinical oncology consultants visit from Oxford. There are 5 Haematology consultants at GWH and the departments have shared outpatient and day ward facilities and a wide range of outpatient oncology chemotherapy is undertaken on site. The departments are well supported by clinical nurse specialists and there are both local and network wide (video-conferenced) multidisciplinary team meetings. The Haematology department provides BCSH level 3 care (leukaemia induction chemotherapy, and autologous stem cell transplantation). The Trust is planning to develop radiotherapy as a satellite of the Oxford Centre in 2020. There is an active cancer clinical trials team and the departments participate in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Candidates are required to be within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview or currently hold CCT or equivalent. As such the post holder should be trained in all aspects of General Medicine, special interests are encouraged and will be supported as much as possible.

Full GMC registration is essential. A work permit may be applied for if the successful candidate is non-UK/EU resident. An enhanced CRB disclosure will be requested in the event of a successful application. A disclosed conviction will not automatically bar an individual from obtaining a position within the trust. The starting salary will reflect the skills and experience of the successful applicant.

Swindon, Wiltshire and the Cotswolds

Swindon is a thriving town set between the Cotswolds to the North and West, the Upper Thames Valley to the East and the Marlborough Downs to the South. London, Bristol and Oxford are all within easy reach, approximately one hour by car with good links by public transport. The rail journey to London Paddington from Swindon is approximately 55 minutes and Heathrow Airport is only an hour away from Swindon by car.

There are beautiful villages with excellent housing in the surrounding rural areas of Wiltshire, the Cotswolds and Marlborough. Marlborough is a bustling market town located in Savernake Forest only 10 miles away from the Great Western and offers a variety of housing and renowned educational institutions. Cirencester, capital of the Cotswolds, is only twenty miles away with great amenities and picturesque surroundings.

All candidates are required to pay for their own DBS check where applicable. Standard DBS check costs £26 and will be recovered from your first pay; Enhanced DBS check costs £44 and will be split and recovered over the first 2 pay.

Bank posts requiring a DBS check; payment must be made prior to commencing.

Apprentices are exempt from payment.
