Electronics Technician (Radiotherapy)

 

Base: Royal Preston Hospital

 

There is a vacancy for an Electronics Technician based in the Radiotherapy Department in the Rosemere Cancer Center at the Royal Preston Hospital.

 

The department currently has one Elekta Synergy and six Elekta Agility Linear Accelerators, including four Versa HD high dose accelerators, two GE wide bore CT scanners and a superficial X-Ray therapy unit.

 

The Rosemere Cancer centre has recently undergone an exciting phase of expansion with the replacement of three linear accelerators and the opening of the Chemotherapy outpatients unit.

 


This post will provide an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to work on the latest medical linear accelerator technology together with other treatment units and complex medical equipment.

 

We are looking for applicants with a level of electronics knowledge up to degree level and at least 5 years extensive practical experience in interpreting circuit diagrams, fault-finding to component level, electronic repair and applying electronic workshop practices. Applicants with lesser qualifications but equivalent knowledge gained through experience will be considered. Comprehensive training to a highly specialist level will be provided on site and by attendance on extensive manufacturers training courses.

You should have basic engineering skills and be able to use hand, power and machine tools. A practical knowledge of IT and networking would be an advantage.

 

 

 

The successful applicant will join an electronics/multi-skilled section specialising in linear accelerator support. Dedication, flexibility and a willingness to work regular out-of-hours and weekends are essential for this role.

 

 

 

The Radiotherapy Department is housed within a purpose built building at the Royal Preston Hospital known as the Rosemere Cancer Centre. It provides treatment for a population of around 1.6 million people covering Lancashire and south Cumbria.

If you are successful in obtaining a position with our Trust which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check. As a registered body with the DBS, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will conduct the administration of this application on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment or over 3 months. Currently the charges made by the Disclosure and Barring Service are - Standard DBS check £30.20 and Enhanced DBS check £48.20. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered.
