Clinical Fellow SpR / ST3+ Plastic Surgery

We wish to appoint Clinical Fellows SpR / ST3+ Level in Plastic Surgery. These posts are to commence February 2019 for 6 months initially, with the possibility of a further 6 month extension being offered, subject to departmental approval. The post is based at either of our two sites in the city and will rotate between the sites.

We have two posts available, 1 includes participation on the On-Call, out of hours rota and the 2nd does not include on-call.  

The adult side is based at Southmead Hospital. This extremely busy and expanding department is able to offer a wide range of experience, including hands, lower limb trauma, reconstructive breast surgery, head and neck cancer and sarcoma, as well as skin cancer.

The paediatric posts are based at the Bristol Children’s Hospital with be exposure to trauma as well as elective paediatric plastic surgery procedures. The department deals with hand and lower limb trauma as well as facial and other complex soft injury tissue injuries. The Paediatric Burns Centre for the South West and the Cleft Lip and Palate Unit are based at the BCH.

The successful candidate will take part in a 1 in 10 on-call rota between the 2 sites. The on call is based on a 24 hours shift and is compliant with EWTD.

This post is not recognised for training by the Specialist Advisory Committee in Plastic Surgery and does not have postgraduate deanery approval; however, the job is well supported and is educationally sound.

Candidates must have GMC registration with a licence to practice that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training. It is essential that candidates have experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent.

The annual salary is in accordance with the Specialty Registrar Scale as follows (October 2018 rates); £31,217 - £49,086.

A standard working week is 40 hours and this post also attracts a supplement of an additional 50% of the basic salary for working on the out of hour’s rota up to a weekly average of 48 hours.
