PRE HOSPITAL EMERGENCY MEDICINE REGISTRAR KENT SURREY AND SUSSEX AIR AMBULANCE TRUST (KSSAAT) HELICOPTER EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE (HEMS) Applications are invited for positions with KSSAAT. Posts are available for 12 months and appointment to one of these posts is the equivalent grade of a Specialist Registrar but does not confer a National Training Number (NTN).

 

Doctors from the core specialties of Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine are invited to apply.

 

Applicants must be ST4+ or equivalent and have a higher postgraduate diploma.

 

International candidates with equivalent experience will also be considered.

 

Candidates may apply from recognised specialist training programmes as a secondment or a stand-alone post. Successful candidates from existing training programmes must have permission from their local training programme director for the duration of the secondment.

 

The appointed clinicians will work primarily as part of the duty flight crews on the two aircraft covering Kent Surrey and Sussex. They will have the opportunity to gain experience and expertise in 24 hour a day rural and urban prehospital care. Research and administrative duties will also form a key part of the role.

 

All clinical activity is directed by robust standard operating procedures.

 

An initial training period will be undertaken working with experienced crew in order to prepare for a sign off assessment with one of the clinical governance leads which must be passed prior to independent practice.

 

Initial appointment is subject to success during a selection day, standard checks and an operational flight suitability assessment. The interview date will be confirmed to shortlisted candidates.

 

This post has a significant physical element; therefore candidates are expected to have suitable physical fitness levels which will be assessed on the selection day.
