Consultant Physician in Palliative Care (10 PA’s)


Applications are invited for this post in Palliative Care within the Integrated Medicine & Community Clinical Business Unit (CBU).We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and committed individual who has all the qualities and drive to join the team.


This post will be contracted in full by Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will work alongside the Palliative Care Matron at Warrington and Halton Hospitals and will lead the development of Palliative Care services within the Acute Trust.

The post holder will work closely with the nursing team to provide an equitable consultant-led service across Warrington and Halton. Close working relationships will be developed with other Acute Trust Consultants and the visiting Oncologists.It is expected that the post holder will also work in collaboration with the Clinical Director and Business Unit Manager. Links will also be developed with the other Specialist Palliative Care providers across Cheshire and Merseyside community enhancing continuity of care and service development

The post will attract 10 PA’s as per the National Consultant Contract. This will include ward rounds, and clinic sessions at Warrington and Halton Hospitals. Fundamental to the success of this service is the continued delivery of person-centred care and the development of (developments in) opportunities for Palliative Care to be made available to all patients within the Acute Service.

Working and leading as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team is a cornerstone of the aspirations of the Acute Trust.

Warrington is an attractive town situated in Cheshire. It has good local motorway and railway links to the large local cities of Liverpool and Manchester and as such is ideally placed for enjoying the shopping, restaurants and nightlife of these two bustling cities. Access to Chester, North Wales and the Lake District is within 30 minutes to 2 hours.

All posts are subject to NHS Employment Check Standards including a DBS check, if applicable. Depending on the classification of the post, in-line with DBS guidelines, a Standard or Enhanced disclosure will be required which may include a check of the ‘Vulnerable Adults List’, the ‘Children’s List’ and/or the Independent Safeguarding Authorities (ISA’s) barred lists.

A charge of £39 (Standard) or £60 (Enhanced) will be made by the successful candidate which will be deducted from the first 3 months’ salary. In addition to this, you will also be required to re-pay any future costs that may arise in relation to DBS fees.

NB. Current employees of Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust who have had a satisfactory DBS check, carried out by this Trust during the last 3 years, will not be required to undertake a new one. Where staff have not had a check (classification appropriate to the post offered) within the last 3 years, they will be required to undertake and pay for this, as per the arrangements above.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
