Consultant Diabetic and Endocrine

Job Reference: 432-MI1133

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust
Endocrine and Diabeties
IPSWICH, Ipswich

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS organisations in the region, employing over 10,000 staff and serving a population of almost 800,000 residents. By merging Colchester and Ipswich hospitals, we can provide the latest treatments locally, and be in a stronger position to save, grow and strengthen the many hospital and community services our residents rely on.

We are an ambitious trust with a simple vision, to provide the communities we serve with excellent healthcare and build a better future for the people of east Suffolk and North Essex. To help us do this, we will work closely with our local partners to deliver more of the joined-up services and care our residents need.

We want the best staff. You want to make a difference.

For our staff and our patients we have the same philosophy: time matters. This new way of working will remove unnecessary stress and frustration caused by the systems we use and the way we work. We will concentrate on removing or improving the things we do that don't work for our patients. For our staff, this means more time to care for patients and greater opportunities to develop skills and experience.

To be the best, we need to attract and keep the best staff. Our size puts us in a strong position to grow, providing more of the latest services. Our scale provides exciting opportunities for development, innovation, research, education and training. Support from technology and logistics will help us see patients at the right time.

So if your ambition matches ours, its time to work together.

Please note that once this advert closes, your application form will be moved to the Trusts' recruitment system, TRAC and therefore all email correspondence will be sent via the TRAC system.

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust – Post based at Ipswich site

Consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes plus General internal Medicine

The East Suffolk and North Essex NHS foundation Trust are seeking to appoint a full-time substantive consultant to the team based at the Ipswich site of the Trust. This is a new post to join the existing 5 consultants. This will facilitate the expansion of specialist work and seven day inpatient speciality working.

The Endocrinology and Diabetes team at Ipswich is nationally renowned for its innovative work in a number of areas including exceptional research activity for a district general hospital. We are a busy but friendly and collaborative department with excellent staff retention. There are full multidisciplinary teams for both endocrinology and diabetes and 2 specialist registrars. Clinics are undertaken in a purpose built Diabetes and Endocrine centre which has facilities for staff and patient education. There is a developed integrated diabetes service in the community with strong links to the specialist service which has been nationally rated as outstanding and the diabetes centre is developing its services for type 1 patients by the use of emerging technologies. We also have a dedicated diabetic foot clinic and links to vascular surgery. For endocrinology we have very strong links with the regional tertiary centres with fortnightly teleconferences and an endocrine specialist nurse who works with an efficient medical day unit for endocrine investigations. The post will involve covering inpatient specialist and general internal medical patients on a rotating basis including weekend on call for GIM approximately one weekend in 16. The post will involve speciality weekend working for 4 hours each weekend day on a shared basis with the other consultants.

The successful candidate will be joining the department at a particularly exciting time as Ipswich Hospital has recently joined with Colchester General Hospital to form the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust which is currently the largest NHS organisation in East Anglia covering a rapidly expanding population of over 800,000 residents. This presents great opportunities to further develop specialist services and the successful candidate will be able to contribute to this process and there is flexibility in the job plan as we would seek to meet their specialist interests. The department is heavily involved in the education of medical students from the Universities of Cambridge and East Anglia.

Ipswich is the county town of Suffolk with rapid rail and road links to London and easy access to Stansted airport, yet close to the coast and beautiful countryside. There are excellent public and independent schools.
