Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist (Echocardiography)

Band 7

Full Time (37.5 hours/week)

 

10% R&R on initial employment which rises to 12.5% R&R at 3 years

As a tertiary centre we see an extremely diverse patient cohort and our department provides a complex and comprehensive service covering; pre and post-transplant assessment; advanced heart failure clinics; pre, peri and post TAVI assessment; complex specialist valve; hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; and family cardiac screening clinics; complex pulmonary hypertension assessment in the context of pulmonary vascular and chronicthrombo-embolic disease; grown-up congenital heart disease (support would be given to obtain GUCH accreditation if desired) dyssynchrony assessment and echo guided CRT device optimisation. Our cutting-edge Echo department is supported by multiple Consultants who continue to expand our service provision and drive forward a programme of clinical and service innovation, efficient service delivery and the outstanding patient care. We are proud to say that our entire fleet is less than 12 months old with the highest specification next-generation equipment; 3D echo is a routine aspect of our clinical practice, enabling us to develop and deliver service directly to out-patients, wards, ICU, structural labs and operating theatres

We are currently looking to expand our highly-skilled Echocardiography team at Royal Papworth Hospital, with positions available for both established and developing Cardiac Physiologist in Echocardiography. We are seeking an established Band 7 Cardiac Physiologist who is looking to specialise in a tertiary centre, with opportunity to develop expertise in a range complex and specialist patient groups. The post holder would be expected to hold all the relevant skills for: advanced echocardiographic imaging in both physiologist and consultant led settings; effectively managing a team of junior physiologists; conducting high quality and clinically relevant research/audit; teaching and training of all internal and external echo trainees. Full support will be given to obtain STP equivalence.

 

The department is dedicated to educating all Echo physiologists. Equal opportunities will be offered to Senior Cardiac Physiologists looking to progress in to a Band 7 development role in Echocardiography. This is also an opportunity for Graduating STP Clinical Science students to advance to the level of Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist upon completion of a set of competencies. Full support and training will be provided to ensure the post holder is able to perform to the highest standard in 2D and 3D TTE, to develop as a competent member of the team covering: TOE, stress/exercise and Echo guided percutaneous intervention (ASD/PFO closure, LAA occlusion, TAVI, BAV, paravalvular leak closure). The successful applicant will also receive management training with a view to service development in the future. Regardless of your entry point, the roles offered are designed to develop the skills and principles of a competent and effective Chief Cardiac Physiologist/ Scientist within an ECHO department.

 

 

Royal Papworth Hospital is currently located just 10-miles from central Cambridge with good links to the A14 and A1. However, we are in the final stages of building our new state-of-the-art hospital, located in the centre of Cambridge on the existing Biomedical Campus. After a transitional period during our move to the Cambridge Biomedical campus, this role will require collaborative working between Royal Papworth Hospital and Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. In preparation of our move to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, we are able to offer a competitive recruitment and retention package which includes a 10% R&R on initial employment which rises to 12.5% R&R at 3 year, as well as £500 to cover relocation costs.
