The Department of Clinical Chemistry comprises a team of 60 staff who are committed to delivering an efficient, high quality diagnostic service. It is a busy, friendly department. We have an excellent reputation as a specialist laboratory and provide a comprehensive metabolic analytical service along with regional newborn screening.

We are looking for one person to join the team as a rotational Biomedical Scientist. Candidates must have completed their IBMS Registration Portfolio and be registered/ able to attain registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a “Biomedical Scientist”.Applications from final year students welcome.

The department is split into three sections comprising Acute, Metabolic, and Newborn Screening. Initial placement and subsequent rotation into each section will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience as well as service demand.

The post-holder will be expected to participate in all aspects of analytical work and adhere to the ‘Standards of Proficiency’ as defined by the Health and Care Professions Council. Full training will be provided. Good communication and interpersonal skills are required as well as the ability to produce accurate and precise work.

The department provides a capillary phlebotomy service and the post-holder will be trained in order to assist with provision. Participation in an out-of-hours on-call service, as well as weekend and bank holiday working is expected.

Sheffield is a lively and cosmopolitan city renowned for its theatres and city-wide events. Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park it only takes a few minutes to reach the countryside. The city also has good transport links to the rest of the UK.

In line with other NHS Organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber Region a successful candidate appointed into a post within this Trust will be required to pay the DBS check fee (£49). This is customarily payable over 4 months as a salary deduction once employed by the Trust. If you receive a conditional offer letter, complete your DBS application and later withdraw from the recruitment process, an invoice will be raised via the Trust's finance department to recoup the outlay.
