We are the largest organisation in the Eastern region. Our scale provides exciting opportunities for development, innovation, research, education and training.

We want the best staff. You want to make a difference.

Exciting times are ahead as Colchester NHS Trust becomes the largest NHS Trust in East Anglia following the agreed merger with Ipswich hospital with a £69 million pound investment to modernise health and care services – becoming the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust making us the largest NHS organisation in the region. Merging will put us in a stronger position to, grow and strengthen the many hospital and community services our population rely on.

Our new Trust will provide you with great opportunities to develop skills and experience, and our time matters philosophy will help us to see patients at the right time, attract and retain the best people and provide the latest treatments locally.

Our vision for the future is simple: to provide the communities we serve with excellent healthcare and build a better future for east Suffolk and North Essex. We look forward to you joining us and being part of this vision.

There is already a strong core of both substantive and long-term locum members on the team, as well as middle-grade doctors, specialist nurses, enhanced clinicians and dedicated support staff. One of the ways we are improving employee experience, staff involvement, and engagement, is by recruiting according to our Trust values, behaviours and attitudes - do you have what it takes to create the ethos of ‘every patient, every day’.

Based in Colchester with 562 beds, a specialist centre for cancer services and the new Turner centre providing diagnostic MRI facilities.

The combined Trust, ESNEFT has an annual income of £660 Million and we employ close to 10,000 staff

Every year Colchester Hospital sees around 400,000 outpatients, 95,000+ patients attend our Emergency Department and we admit via inpatient and day case admissions 95, 728 patients a year for further treatments.

Colchester is the ‘Oldest recorded town in Britain’ with a wealth of history to explore, including the landmark ‘Norman’ era Castle. Offering great transport links to London, Colchester is also very close to the coast and the beautiful and peaceful ‘Constable’ countryside. Colchester is a vibrant town offering a great lifestyle for families and young professionals alike, with more affordable housing than city areas, highly rated schools, one of Europe’s best Zoos and great shopping.

Choose us… We are one of the top performing 40 hospitals in the country for ED 4 hour standard and currently one of the top performers in the region for ambulance turnaround standards.

Applications are invited for Acute Physicians, to join the existing team in our Emergency Assessment Unit at Colchester General Hospital, who provide acute and emergency care for medical patients accessing the Trust. We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to join the department of acute medicine and drive service improvements in this department.

This post is one of three/four new substantive consultant positions due to the expansion of services at the front door. There is recognition of the importance and value of having appropriately trained acute physicians to lead these services and address the increasing challenges facing the NHS and all acute services. We actively encourage special interests and flexible working patterns to support services within acute medicine, education and leadership projects. This is an exciting opportunity to develop new services and pathways within a dynamic and vibrant environment.

Our vision is to provide excellent consultant led care for our patients from the moment they arrive, and to ensure rapid access to the right service at the right time, as well as maximising opportunities for ambulatory care and early discharge. In addition, the successful candidate(s) will have a pivotal role in junior doctor education and training. The Trust Board is committed to significant investment in urgent care, including medical pathways. Acute medical admissions are managed in a purpose built emergency assessment unit that includes 43 EAU beds, MDU is a 14 space emergency take facility with 6 ambulance spaces, 4 high dependency beds and a 6 seated ambulatory area accommodating all emergency medical patients.
