CONSULTANT IN DIABETIOLOGY AND ENDOCRINOLOGY

Applications are invited for a Consultant with an interest in Diabetology and Endocrinology at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidates will join the existing substantive Consultant to form a rotation, undertaking out-patient clinics and inpatient ward rounds, within an ambitious and supportive department.

The department is currently funded for two Consultants, (one of which is this vacant post), two WTE specialist registrars, one WTE Diabetic Specialist Nurse and a team of junior doctors consisting of a CMT, FY2 and FY1 doctors. The Diabetic / Endocrinology Consultants have responsibility for 16 inpatient beds serving both general medical and diabetic / endocrine patients. At Leighton Hospital there is one nominated Diabetology ward; there is also a dedicated outpatient facility.

The department work closely with the community Diabetic Specialist Nurse Team, along with dietetics and podiatry. There is also one inpatient Diabetic Specialist Nurse who supports the trust and the general diabetic patients. Work is ongoing to develop our integrated diabetes model to help support patients in the community.

The Trust was rated as ‘Good’ from it’s 2018 inspection, has a good reputation for research and benefits from some of the very latest clinical facilities; these include Critical Care, neonatal intensive care, a new suite of state-of-the-art theatres and a dedicated day case Treatment Centre. The Trust has invested significantly in recent years in clinical expansion and hospital mortality is ‘as expected’ across the range of indicators.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).

The posts are offered on a full-time basis; however, the Trust would welcome discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support a different work life balance.
