Job Summary:

Southwest Pathology Microbiology laboratory offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience using the Kiestra Total Lab Automation system along with our Maldi and Phoenix analysers for further identification and sensitivity testing. Blood cultures and TB are processed via BecTec and the Mdgit and we have a rapidly expanding molecular service working within an integrated laboratory setting. Microbiology delivers a comprehensive Microbiology service over a 7-day working pattern Monday to Sunday based on 37.5 hour working week.

We currently are seeking enthusiastic HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientists to support our Microbiology laboratory, who are able to rotate through all areas of our Laboratory and perform, interpret routine and specialist Biomedical investigations autonomously providing patients results within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of senior staff.


Required skills and experience


Applications are sought from self-motivated candidates who can offer experience in the following:


  • The successful candidate should hold an IBMS-accredited Biological Sciences degree or equivalent qualification and have a current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), with a specialist diploma or equivalent experience
  • Ideal candidates are also sought with bacteriology experience alongside molecular and virology experience.
  • Successful candidates will be expected to participate on the ‘on call’ night roster, late shifts and weekend working.
