This is an opportunity to work in an innovative new post in a Universal Crisis Team in Northumberland & North Tyneside. Provision of Universal Crisis Teams (UCT) across the United Kingdom aligns with the NHS Long Term Plan . Extending access to crisis services across the age spectrum for our populations in Northumberland and North Tyneside supports the development of suicide prevention initiatives across our region, in keeping with research from the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Patient Safety.

You will join an experienced and well-established pre-existing adults’ crisis service which provides crisis assessment and home treatment for patients experiencing acute mental health problems who can be managed in the community with intensive mental health support, without the need for hospital admission. As part of incorporating crisis assessment and treatment for older adults with both functional and organic mental illnesses, we are expanding the medical workforce working into the UCT by creating this post which will be supported by specialist crisis older adult nursing staff. Concomitantly, we are incorporating intensive crisis treatment support for children & adolescents into the pre-existing crisis team and are recruiting a child psychiatrist to support this pathway. You will join a skilled UCT multi-disciplinary workforce, including non- medical prescribers, a pharmacist, specialist nurses and a psychologist.

The post holder will form part of the joint Clinical and Management Leadership team and provide assessment, treatment and consultative support and supervision to the MDT. As an urgent-care service the planning and management of clinical workload and prioritization happens on a daily basis with a culture of flexibility essential to the safe and effective operation of the service. The team carries a typical home treatment caseload of 15-25 patients.

There is significant potential for leading/ becoming involved in quality improvement initiatives within this team.
