“Neonatal transport fellowship – flexible start date from February 2020 – post duration 6-12 months”

An exciting opportunity has arisen to embark on a transport fellowship with CenTre Neonatal Transport Service. This post is suitable for trainees wishing to gain clinical neonatal transport experience as well as individuals who have completed their training aspiring to gain further management and transport experience prior to gaining a consultant post.

The CenTre neonatal transport service provides a standalone transport team, covering the 14 neonatal units across the East Midlands Neonatal ODN and also three units in the West Midlands (University Hospitals of Coventry & Warwick, Warwick hospital and George Elliot Hospital). The service was established in April 2010. We perform around 1750 transfers annually, making us one of the busiest services in UK. The transport service is hosted by the University of Leicester NHS trust which also host a busy tertiary neonatal intensive care unit (sub-regional referral centre for Neonatal surgery), paediatric cardiology service, paediatric ECMO and PICU. Teams are dispatched from Nottingham City Hospital (north base) and Leicester Royal infirmary (south base).

Paediatric trainees should have completed a minimum of 6 months in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit working on a tier 2 rota and attained the appropriate neonatal competencies. Comprehensive training in neonatal transport medicine will be provided. There is an excellent educational programme within the neonatal service and CenTre neonatal transport including simulation training which post holders are encouraged to utilise.

Past posts have proven highly successful and flexible in supporting trainees in many ways to achieve their ambitions, whether to provide additional experience in successfully applying to a training programme, attain additional specialist skills and help successfully apply for Consultant posts.

This post does not attract an NTN. Existing NTN holders will be expected to apply for Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) or Out of Programme Training (OOPT) from their Training Programme (If successful, contact your local Deanery so that they can apply for prospective approval with GMC for OOPT).

These posts have been recognised for training by the RCPCH and Neonatal CSAC (as part of the third year of grid).
