Change your life to save lives – career pathway to Paramedic

If you’ve always thought about a career in the NHS but life simply got in the way, or you’ve recently started thinking about career options, we have the perfect development opportunity for you.

Our programme offers a varied career journey initially working as a 999 Call Handler, before spending some time working at the frontline as an Emergency Care Assistant working on an ambulance, supporting a registered paramedic in caring for our patients. This will then lead to entry to the Paramedic apprenticeship degree programme during which you will earn whilst you learn and obtain your degree and professional registration as a Newly Qualified Paramedic. Progression through each position will be guaranteed, subject to demonstrating capability and competency within each role

Your Background

We are looking for people to join us who are caring, compassionate and good at communicating. Particular skills and requirements we are looking for include:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Be prepared to work shifts (24/7 rota providing cover on weekends, nights and bank holidays)
  • GCSE Grade A-C in Maths and English, or the equivalent Functional Skills certificate

What We Can Offer You

  • An interesting a varied career pathway to become a qualified register Newly Qualified Paramedic whilst earning throughout (6 years in total to qualification). This may be reduced to 5 years following completion of current conversations with Cumbria University
  • Training package for 999 Call Handler role
  • Training package for Emergency Care Assistant role
  • Opportunity to undertake Paramedic Degree apprenticeship with Cumbria University
  • All internal training provided and the Paramedic Degree apprenticeship is fully funded by the organisation. Currently University degree Paramedic courses equate to at least £27,000
  • Loan to obtain your C1 driving licence if you don’t already have this (required to be able to commence as an ECA)
  • Salary starting at £20,330 increasing to £25,655 over 6 years
  • Following 2 year NQP consolidation, Qualified Paramedic salary range is £32,306 to £39,027
  • Unsocial hours enhancements, in accordance to NHS Agenda for Change section 2. On average an additional £4,500 per annum based on the starting salary*(subject to rota worked and example based on our usual 24/7 rolling rota)
