We are looking for an individual to fill this new, 10 PA post within the Medical Oncology Department at The Leeds Cancer Centre, St James’s University Hospital.  

This is for a Consultant with special interests in breast cancer and acute Oncology. You will join an established team within the Leeds Cancer Centre providing non-surgical breast cancer services working closely with colleagues providing similar services across West Yorkshire. The service covers a local population of 800,000, as well as receiving regional referrals for some clinical trials, treating 600 patients each year, delivering 1400 cycles of systemic anti-cancer therapy for early breast cancer and 2600 cycles of systemic anti-cancer therapy and supportive therapy for metastatic disease. 

The team has an active clinical research portfolio, recruiting patients to systemic therapy trials for early and advanced disease, as well as contributing to trials of imaging modalities and patient-reported outcome measures (led by Prof Velikova). There is access to the early phase trials portfolio (led by Prof Twelves), supported by the dedicated Leeds Clinical Research Facility (currently undergoing expansion). There is dedicated support from the research nurse and clinical trials administrative teams. 

Leeds Cancer Centre is one of the most prestigious oncology departments in the UK, providing an ideal infrastructure for high quality multidisciplinary cancer services and ensuring the best outcomes for the catchment population of West Yorkshire. In addition, there is a well established academic department of clinical oncology with a strong clinical research portfolio. 

The successful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK.  In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in medical oncology and it would be desirable if they had evidence of experience of treating breast cancer. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable. 

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

‘Challenges to delivering a Breast oncology service in a rapidly changing therapeutic landscape in a large cancer centre’
