This is an exciting opportunity for either a newly qualified clinical/applied psychologist looking for a post with potential career progression, or an established 8a clinical/applied psychologist. This post is suitable for a preceptorship from Band 7 to 8a.

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust provides community health, specialist mental health and learning disability services.

A permanent, part-time position is available in the Southampton City Community Learning Disability Health Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a clinical/applied psychologist to join a vibrant and dynamic service, with a strong background in innovative ways of working and publishing outcomes of service evaluation.

The post-holder will offer a psychological service for adults with learning disabilities who have specialist health needs, and work closely with their families and carers. Services provided will include specialist psychological assessment, intervention, advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to a wide range of stakeholders. Work is undertaken across a range of community settings including peoples’ homes, day services, and private residential homes. Clinical work will focus on clients with behaviour that challenges services, mental health difficulties, dementia, complex health, autism spectrum conditions, epilepsy and forensic needs.

For recruitment to an 8a post the successful candidate will have some experience of qualified clinical/applied psychology practice and be enthusiastic about applying their skills in a Community Learning Disability Service. The post holder will work closely with a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, 8a Clinical Psychologist, Art Therapist and Multi-Disciplinary Team.

Depending on experience, the post holder will participate as a senior member of the multi-disciplinary team. They will contribute to the ongoing quality and governance of both clinical psychology and broader service provision within the Locality Community Learning Disability Service.

Depending on grade the post holder will be expected to offer supervision to trainee psychologists and other staff as required. Therefore applicants seeking a Band 8a position should ideally have line management and supervisory experience. The successful applicant will be supervised by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, as part of a friendly multidisciplinary team.

Supervision and CPD are high priorities for the service, and there are regular professional meetings involving clinical/applied psychologists working across the service. The service has a strong commitment to Clinical Psychology training and we have close links with the University of Southampton Doctoral training programme.

The post holder must be registered with the HCPC and be able to work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of service policies and procedures.
