An exciting opportunity has arisen for a well-respected senior professional to join our Board as a Non-Executive Director. We are seeking to appoint an individual who shares our values and ambitions and is passionate about building on our success.

Three-year fixed term appointment, with possible extension (maximum 9 years)

The NED will work with the Board, CEO, and Executive Directors, to inform, deliver and develop the company strategy in line with commissioning requirements.

We are looking for an individual who has proven knowledge and experience in:

  • Clinician – A background as a GP, Nurse, Medical Director or other clinical fields is essential
  • In depth knowledge or experience of Clinical research
  • An understanding of organisational culture on performance and productivity
  • Financial acumen
  • Influencing strategy, quality improvements and service delivery at Board level
  • Effective and credible communication with a wide range of stakeholders at both local and national levels
  • Ensuring Corporate Governance
  • Understanding complex strategic issues, in order to achieve enhanced delivery of Clinical Services
  • Up to date commercial strategies to deliver sustainable business growth
  • Experience in Health and Care would be advantageous (community, mental health, urgent/emergency or social care and Integrated Care Systems), as would experience with local authority systems
  • Knowledge or experience regarding the role of the Freedom To Speak Up Guardian will be an advantage but is not essential
  • Knowledge or experience regarding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion will be an advantage but is not essential
  • Chair experience at board level will be an advantage but is not essential

 

The time commitment on average is approximately three days per month, for the purpose of attending the DHU Board meeting, involvement in sub committees or support to Executive Director colleagues. As with all NED posts, the time commitment will be flexible across the year with some periods requiring greater input and less depending on the service issues.

To be successful in this role, candidates will be excellent communicators, with the ability to create impact, by engaging and influencing key stakeholders in order to facilitate positive change. They must be driven and passionate about creating and shaping an innovative strategic vision for the best possible long-term benefit of the organisation and our patients. They will be well-respected within the clinical community and can positively influence peers.
