We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 RMN. We are looking for a compassionate and highly motivated individual to join an experienced and supportive team. Working in prisons is both challenging and rewarding. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of women who are often disadvantaged and vulnerable.

The Environment:

HMP Drake Hall is a closed Women’s prison situated in Eccleshall in Staffordshire. It accommodates 350 sentenced adult females serving a range of sentences from a few months to many years. HMP Drake Hall is a Resettlement prison providing many opportunities for Rehabilitation and positive change for its residents.

The Inclusion Integrated mental Health and Substance Misuse Team is a well-established service within this setting. Working in a prison requires resilience and compassion as well as an insight into issues pertinent to women in this setting.

We strive to provide high quality healthcare to those in the custodial setting. We work closely with partners in an aim to deliver the same level of healthcare to prisoners one would expect to receive in the community.

We are an integrated Mental Health and Substance misuse team providing a holistic level of care. The team consists of Registered Mental Health Nurses, Substance Misuse workers, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Assistant Psychologist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist and Drama Therapist working within the prison environment alongside a wide range of professionals providing a multi-agency approach.

Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. It comes with its own challenges however it’s a rewarding diverse environment like no other, where you can gain a wide range of new skills and experiences.

The Job Requirements:

  • You will be a qualified or newly qualified RMN and working within NMC Code of Practice and Professional guidelines.
  • You will be confident in managing a caseload of clients with complex care mental health difficulties whilst assessing each individuals’ care needs in order to develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
  • You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary and fully integrated Mental Health and Substance Misuse service. Interventions are offered in line with a stepped care model with a single point of access for prisoners experiencing mental health or substance misuse difficulties.
  • You will be required to support student nurses on placement.
  • You will provide high quality clinical service to the prison population whilst having the support you require to deliver this standard of care
  • You’ll have a flexible approach working within a team but also be able to work autonomously
  • Show initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations which at times can be challenging and unpredictable
  • Be open and forthcoming with new ideas and approaches to the working environment in order to improve service care delivery, keeping innovation at the forefront of what we do.
  • You will need a sound knowledge of The Mental Health Act and its application to sentenced and remand prisoners.

  • MPFT will offer an additional £2,500.00'welcome to MPFT bonus', 50% on joining us and 50% after a period of 12 months service.
  • An equivalent allowance can be offered which will enable the individual to pay for yearly professional registration fees up to £120.00 per year
