Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, treating around 50,000 patients each year. We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with administrative services based in Huntingdon.

Founded as a tuberculosis colony in 1918, Royal Papworth Hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation. Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

Band 4/5 (depending on experience) – Pharmacy Technician

An exciting opportunity for any Pharmacy Technician wanting to expand their skills and knowledge has opened up at the Royal Papworth hospital. If you are a friendly, compassionate and enthusiastic person who enjoys making a difference to people’s lives, this is the job for you. You will have the opportunity to work alongside our pharmacy team and wider multidisciplinary teams on the wards where you will experience plenty of patient contact whilst occasionally spending time within the dispensary which homes our robot!

The pharmacy prides itself on being able to offer many training and development opportunities and the chance to experience all areas of the hospital such as dispensary, cardiology and thoracic on a rotation basis.

The successful candidate will work alongside other members of the pharmacy team to provide essential services to our patients including TTO preparation, medicines reconciliation, patient consultations and managing continuity of service. They will also be asked to assist in the continuation of training and supervision of junior staff and preregistration pharmacy professionals – Dependant on experience
