Biomedical Scientist (qualified, HCPC registered) – Band 5 full time

We are delighted to be able to recruit a Biomedical scientist to join our small and friendly Microbiology team based at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple, Devon.

It is an exciting time to join the North Devon team, with the roll-out of the Epic Electronic Patient Record and Beaker LIMS allowing closer integration with our sister laboratory at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

 

About us

North Devon Hospital is part of Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust which provides integrated acute and community services across Northern and Eastern Devon. The department has achieved UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189 and is an IBMS approved training laboratory. The Northern laboratory undertakes bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and molecular testing including SARS-CoV-2.

North Devon offers a fantastic combination of coastline and countryside, with the famous surfing beaches of North Devon and the beautiful National Parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor on your doorstep. Job responsibilities

You will be working as part of a small, busy team to undertake clinical technical investigations for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of disease. You will be required to undertake clinical technical investigations for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of disease. Once competent (after appropriate training) you will be expected to: coordinate, validate and authorise the day to day technical activities of a section of the laboratory to help with quality management activities of the laboratory such as audits, competency assessments and other activities as and when required; Contribute towards the training of technical, scientific and medical staff.

You will rotate throughout the laboratory and working on Saturdays, Sundays, Bank Holidays and on-call on a rotational basis is a requirement of this post. To see full list of duties and main responsibilities please refer to the full job description.

Salary: Agenda for Change Band 5 (£25,655 - £31,534).

About you

We are looking for an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist with NHS experience. Post-registration laboratory experience in a Microbiology laboratory and expertise in Bacteriology are essential prerequisites for this position. The ideal candidate will be friendly, enthusiastic and self-motivated with good organisational and communication skills. You must have the ability to work under pressure and work well within a team.
