Paramedic Practitioner

We are recruiting for a full-time qualified Paramedic Practitioner within Dorking Primary Care Network (PCN) to work with the four practices. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a learning environment helping to develop your role, without an out of hours requirement (although twilight shifts are included). You would be a member of an integrated system combining triage and acute intervention sessions in primary care, but also with the opportunity to engage in the more complex home visits as part of the community medical team.

If you join us as a qualified Paramedic, we will provide you with full training to support your progression to Paramedic Practitioner.

The successful applicant will work alongside friendly, supportive multi-disciplinary teams consisting of Doctors, Nurses, HCA’s ANP, Clinical Pharmacists and MSK practitioners. We have a well-established multi-disciplinary community medical team based at Dorking Community Hospital with close links to the practices and also have established Paramedic training programmes in two of the Dorking practices. We provide mentoring, hands on training and support to use technologies including digital triage, telephone triage and video consultation using SystemOne, Docman 10 with workflow optimisation and AccuRx.

The person

This is a fantastic opportunity to really make your mark in a successful, growing organisation that is committed to seeking new, creative and better ways to deliver and develop our services. The successful candidate will be keen to work in a supportive team and integrated learning environment with a drive for patient care and a patient centred approach. You will have an interest in primary care, triage and minor illness practice work stream and excel in being a part of the home visiting community medical team. This role is pivotal to improving the quality of care and operational efficiencies so self-motivation and passion to deliver excellent service within general practice is essential.

We are seeking a knowledgeable, ambitious and skilled professional with dedication and a good customer service ethos, who will act as an excellent role model to other members of the team. The successful applicant must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and hold a relevant degree e.g. BSc in Paramedic Science. A post graduate diploma in Paramedic Practice would be desirable. In addition, you should possess excellent clinical skills evidenced through continuing professional development and a minimum of 5 years’ post registration qualification as a paramedic or equivalent relevant experience in front line ambulance or acute or chronic care. An Independent Prescriber qualification would also be desirable.

Due to the requirements relating to Paramedics joining Primary Care, the successful candidate must already have completed (or be willing to complete) the requirements relating to Stage 1 of either a First Contact Practitioner HE Level 7 module or undertake the portfolio route for First Contact Practitioners joining Primary Care. These are set out in the Health Education England document “A Roadmap to Practice” dated January 2021. This can take up to 6 months and must be completed prior to starting. Once the successful candidate has joined DHC, further support will be offered to undertake the remaining stages towards becoming a fully qualified Paramedic Practitioner.

Travel between the different GP Practices within the PCN and home visits will be necessary, so a car driver would be ideal.
