In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

Education Facilitator – Clinical Skills

The post holder will design programs and teach a range of clinical skills and practical procedures to undergraduate medical students, as part of the undergraduate Cambridge medical curriculum in the classroom and clinical environment.

The Role

The role is central to the delivery of Clinical Education training programmes with a core focus on the development of undergraduate medical students on placement at Royal Papworth.

The post holder will design programs and teach a range of clinical skills and practical procedures to undergraduate medical students, as part of the undergraduate Cambridge medical curriculum in the classroom and clinical environment.  They will develop clinical resources to facilitate the effective transition from simulation to the clinical environment, therefore providing students opportunities to find supported clinical experiences in practical skills.  The role is fundamental in ensuring quality clinical placements for medical students thus supporting a robust assessment and evaluation process for their year groups.

Through establishing close working relationships with clinical skills tutors at both Royal Papworth Hospital and the Regional Partnership Trust Hospitals, the post holder will assist in the co-ordination, timetabling, preparation and delivery of the practical skills curriculum for Cambridge medical students on regional placement.

Where appropriate the post holder will also support the delivery of skills training to the wider multi-professional student and staff groups in accordance with school and organisational need.

The post will enable the right candidate to develop their own portfolio in education as well as being supported in their own development as a member of the medical education team. 

The post holder will work at the Royal Papworth Hospital site.
