Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

Band 6 Senior Clinical Trial Coordinator/Senior Research Nurse
(Fixed Term 1 year)

Full-time 37.5 hours per week (Part time and job share will be considered)

An exciting opportunity to work as a Senior Clinical Trial Coordinator/Senior Research Nurse has arisen in the Cross Divisional Research Group. We are a team of experienced and dedicated professionals collaborating with our talented multi-disciplinary clinical teams to deliver a wide range of innovative high quality research trials to inform the future care of our patients. This team supports a large and growing portfolio of Critical Care and Anaesthetics, Surgical, Transplant and ILD.

The post holder will be responsible for a portfolio of a Critical Care clinical studies including randomised, controlled trials and observational studies.

As a key member of the Cross Divisional Research Team, you will be responsible for the set up and coordination of a number of Critical Care clinical trials, recruiting patients, coordinating data collection, arranging and conducting assessments and follow up episodes as specified by the protocol. You will ensure that specified milestones are achieved on time, that high quality data is collected and that the trial is being conducted according to the ethically approved protocol and ICH-GCP standards.

You will be based at the new Heart Lung Research Institute (HLRI) and Royal Papworth Hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The campus is served by 60 local bus services an hour during weekdays and is on the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway, which provides frequent, reliable public transport along the A14 corridor linking Huntingdon and St Ives to central Cambridge, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Trumpington to the south. The southern entrance to the campus is accessed via Addenbrooke’s Road and is just 2 miles from the M11 (J11).
