Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

Band 6 Senior Research Nurse
Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week

Royal Papworth Hospital is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital and an internationally renowned centre offering specialist care for patients with cardio-respiratory conditions.

An exciting opportunity to work as a Band 6 Senior Research Nurse has arisen in the Cambridge Centre for Lung Infection (CCLI) Research team This team supports a large and growing portfolio of Cystic Fibrosis and Bronchiectasis clinical trials with the majority being Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMP’s). We are looking to appoint an additional registered nurse with extensive experience of respiratory care and / or also good clinical research nursing experience to our team.

We are a team of experienced and dedicated professionals working with our talented specialist multi-disciplinary clinical teams to deliver a wide range of innovative high quality research trials to inform the future care of our patients.

The post holder will be responsible for leading on a portfolio of clinical trials, from the set up and management of the studies. Approaching and recruiting patients, arranging patient visits, liaising with supporting departments, conducting appropriate protocol procedures, completing data collection and input, maintaining site files and appropriate documentation, supporting the PI and other clinical teams to ensure that all research is conducted as per Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. All team members are expected to support and assist all other team members required.

We are located across a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus which combines world-class biomedical research, patient care and education on a single site as well as our brand-new Heart Lung Research Institute (HRLI) next door opened its doors in April 2022 this will draw together the highest concentration of heart and lung researchers from academia, healthcare and industry in Europe.

Flexible working arrangements working around clinic times and could include some remote working.

You will be based at the HRLI and Royal Papworth Hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The campus is served by 60 local bus services an hour during weekdays and is on the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway, which provides frequent, reliable public transport along the A14 corridor linking Huntingdon and St Ives to central Cambridge, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Trumpington to the south. The southern entrance to the campus is accessed via Addenbrooke’s Road and is just 2 miles from the M11 (J11).
