EXPERIENCED/ENTRY LEVEL BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST

BLOOD SCIENCES

£25,655 - £31,534 per annum/pro rata (AfC Band 5)

£32,306 - £39,027 per annum/pro rata (AfC Band 6)

37.5 hours per week - PERMANENT

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated state registered Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team. This department offers training and development opportunities for the right candidates to further develop their skills and ambition.

 

Haematology at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is part of the Blood Sciences department of Barnsley and Rotherham Integrated Laboratory Services. This modern department offers a wide range of diagnostic testing facilities for Rotherham and Barnsley Hospitals as well as local GP practices. The department is fully UKAS accredited and an IBMS accredited training laboratory.

 

Within the laboratory we work with Advia 2120’s with automated autoslide stainer, Stago StaMax and Chemistry analysers that are linked by a Siemens automation system. In addition, there is a Starrsed AutoCompact for ESR analysis and a hematek slide stainer. Blood transfusion use the BioRad IH1000’s.

 

Requirements for the different banding:

  • To apply for the Experienced BMS post in Haematology, the successful candidate must be state registered with Health and Care Professions Council. You will have several years’ experience in an NHS Haematology/Transfusion laboratory and hold the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology or equivalent.

  • To apply for the entry level role, you will hold the IBMS registration portfolio and need to have experience working within an NHS Haematology/Transfusion laboratory.

     

    Once trained you will be committed to supporting the 24/7 out of hour’s service.

     

    The post is based at Barnsley Hospital but the successful candidate may also benefit from working at our partner laboratory in Rotherham.

The aim of the Network is to deliver a Pathology Service that provides all SYB patients and clinicians with equitable access to high-quality, innovative laboratory medicine solutions that will ensure the best clinical outcomes for patients.

A collaborative Network will also provide rewarding job and career opportunities for all staff. An Outline Business Case, which described the Target Operating Model for the future Network, has been agreed between Partner Trusts. The proposed Target Operating Model will ultimately lead to the consolidation of services across SYB. As work progresses to establish the Network, staff will be consulted about proposals that may involve them

Standard Check:£18.00 + Administration cost of £3.69 = deduction from salary as a one-off payment.

Enhanced Check:£38.00 + administration cost of £3.69 = £13.69 deduction from 1st months’ salary, then deduction from salary over following 3 months.
